Process: "a series of actions, changes or functions bringing about a result"
Would you build your own house?

- Start on paper first. It is the safest way to avoid problems with space issues down the road. If it does not work on paper, it does not matter how pretty it is, it is not going to work in the real world. So an investment in adequate time for the space plan is mandatory.
-
Make a phone call to start a dialog with a Veeco Designer. They will assist you in preparing for your preliminary meeting. You will be asked for the following items:
-
An accurate drawing of the space. What is the square footage of the project? A Blueprint from the developer/landlord is ideal. If that is not available, a hand drawn representation with measurements depicting locations of doors, windows, walls, columns, plumbing access. There is no such thing as too many measurements. If furnishing a hand drawn plan, do not worry about making it "pretty;" the Veeco designer
will take care of that detail. - We need your wish list. i.e. the list of services, and quantities of each that you would like to see implemented into the design. If you are planning on future growth, then voicing this option to the designer will assist them in offering a plan that has the flexibility you require. Pictures of salons you like, rooms that you love are a great resource. It will reflect colors and textures that appeal to you and the Veeco designer will have that much more of a head start in creating a unique look for your particular project.
- Do you have specific preferences for particular pieces of equipment? Is there a station that you just fell in love with? Do you require a standing reception desk? Do you want your color mixing area out in the open? Are you currently in a location where you are relocating items to the new facility? Do you care if double stations are substituted for single stations Many times different stations can be interchangeable on a plan. Sometimes a change in mind for a station can cause a chain reaction and the entire plan can shift. Obviously, having some concrete thoughts will aid the designer in their ability to create a space catered to your needs. Bear in mind that flexibility in the design process is just as important.
- What is your timetable? When do you have access to the space? When do you want to be open?

Once you have contacted Veeco, regarding the design requirements, and you have furnished the above information, a date will be set for either an in person appointment or a teleconference. We prefer face to face meetings at the showroom in Chicago as a great deal more can be accomplished in one sitting than back and forth via fax and email. However, we are very adept at working either way. - Upon meeting with a Veeco designer, a plan will usually be presented as a starting point for your project providing we have been given adequate time to prepare. Changes are part of the process and are expected to happen with any design.
- Usually after 1 or 2 meetings, a final plan will have emerged, furniture and equipment will have been selected and color selections will be determined. When the equipment has been ordered, the plumbing and electrical requirements will be supplied into construction plans and then emailed to your local architect. We would also request that your contractor be introduced to us so we can answer any technical concerns they may have also.
- The design process should not be intimidating you. It is a vital part of the process that brings out the elements that best represent you as a salon owner.
